The Global Financing Facility: A Concrete Step towards Sustainable Financing for Women’s and Children’s Health
Announced at the UN General Assembly in September 2014, the Global Financing Facility in support of Every Woman Every Child will contribute to global efforts to end preventable maternal, newborn, child and adolescent deaths by 2030 by providing smart, sustainable and scalable financing for eligible countries. The World Bank-hosted GFF Trust Fund aims to raise $2.6 billion for initial grants to 63 eligible countries to leverage additional resources to scale up health services for women and children, and help countries build and strengthen their Civil Registration and Vital Statistics systems.
The event will provide updates on progress on establishing the GFF including information on how the GFF will leverage resources from all partners to improve health outcomes for women and children. Two GFF frontrunner countries will share their perspectives on diversifying and mobilizing funding for women and children’s health at the country level, including opportunities and lessons learned. Speakers will include representatives from Canada, Norway, the United States, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, the World Bank Group, and the World Health Organization.
This event is co-sponsored by the Governments of Canada, Norway and the United States of America; and GFF frontrunner countries Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania, and the World Bank Group.
Please RSVP for this event by May 15 by emailing GENEVReception@international.gc.ca.
