The World Bank’s multi-donor Health Results Innovation Trust Fund (HRITF) supports results-based financing (RBF) approaches in the health sector for achievement of the health-related MDGs ─ particularly MDGs 1c, 4 and 5. Donors to the HRITF include the Governments of Norway and the United Kingdom, with commitments totaling over US$500 million through 2022. The HRITF finances activities to enhance access to and improve the quality of basic health services using a variety of RBF mechanisms.
The HRITF has four specific aims:
The HRITF works with development partners and client countries to build and use country systems, wherever possible. The HRITF aims to be consistent with the principles of the International Health Partnership (IHP+), and the Global Consensus on Maternal, Newborn and Child Health.
The HRITF supports:
Country Pilot Grants to design, implement, monitor and evaluate RBF mechanisms. The following countries are currently supported: Afghanistan, Benin, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, India, Kyrgyz Republic, Rwanda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The HRITF was initiated in December 2007 and is expected to operate through 2022.
